Our thermo (HOTwood) oak is free of knots, giving it an elegant and modern look. Thanks to its excellent properties, this wonderfully deep brown, environmentally-friendly variety of wood is ideal for outdoor use. HOTwood oak also works perfectly as part of your interior décor.
Thermally modified oak is a type of top-quality hardwood that comes from sustainably-managed forests that has been treated at a high temperature. The process does not use any chemical products, making it environmentally-friendly. HOTwood – short for ‘heated outdoor timber’ – is actually a perfect expression of our sustainable production values.
Thanks to this treatment, the dimensions of the oak are stabilised so the wood retains its shape. After treatment, the wood is also darker brown in colour and develops, a lovely patina when exposed to sun and rain.
In principle, our HOTwood oak does not need to be treated. It will turn a lovely silvery grey colour over time. However, if you would like to keep the deep brown of the thermo oak, or if you would prefer a different colour, we recommend you treat the wood with an oil stain before installing. Please feel free to ask our advice.
Oak is a high-quality hardwood, much appreciated for its exceptional properties. The heat treatment only enhances these; it extends the life of the wood and ensures it retains its shape - properties crucial for outdoor use. So HOTwood oak is perfect for timber cladding and decking.
Our thermo oak cladding and HOTwood oak decking boards come with a 25-year guarantee against rotting. Please note: to protect board ends from end checking and cracking, always apply a protective coat of wax oil if they will not be protected by a cover board.
PEFC certification is available on request.
