Accoya is made from fast-growing softwood (pinus radiata) sourced from sustainably managed forests and harvested after around 30 years. Through an acetylation process, the wood is modified right to its core, resulting in an exceptionally dimensionally stable, rot-resistant and sustainable product. The softwood thus takes on the characteristics of hardwood, without the drawbacks. No toxic substances are used during the modification process, and the natural beauty of the wood is preserved.
After the modification process, Accoya achieves durability class I and is 100% rot-resistant. It shows virtually no shrinkage or swelling and expands up to 3 to 4 times less than traditional wood varieties. Thanks to this superior dimensional stability, projects continue to look fantastic for years with minimal maintenance.
