At Carpentier, you will find black wood cladding that works for your project. We create the desired look in our workshop using the Shou Sugi Ban technique, to ensure your façade is unique. What’s more, our burnt wood cladding is fully compatible with the invisible Grad® installation system. This ensures simple installation and an impeccable finish for your black wood wall.
What makes our charred timber cladding so attractive is the Shou Sugi Ban charring technique, which our wood experts carry out by treating the wooden boards with flames. Inspired by a centuries-old Japanese tradition, this special technique not only creates a stylish and attractive look, but also comes with other advantages.
Our black wood cladding can take on any colour, from intense black to lightly toasted and anything in between. Shades are natural in appearance and depend on factors such as:
Burnt wood cladding also comes in different textures, with deeper charring producing a scaled effect. In combination with charring and brushing, wood can take on a flamed or grained appearance. All of this helps make every burnt wood facade unique. In short, this is the ideal choice of cladding for creating one-of-a-kind designs.
WHICH CHARRED TIMBER CLADDING IS BEST FOR YOUR PROJECT?

Shou Sugi Ban burns away the soft outer layer of the wooden boards, a process that makes wood significantly more durable. What remains is a hard, robust charred layer that is moisture-free and highly flame resistant. It also generally attracts fewer pests and less mould, thus rendering it more rot resistant.
It’s important to know that Carpentier deliberately sources all of its environmentally responsible wood varieties from sustainably managed forests. By choosing our charred wood cladding, you are making a responsible choice that is good for the environment.
Our burnt timber cladding profiles are perfect for use with the Grad® installation system. Since our black wood cladding is delivered ready to use, wood professionals can get straight to work. This smart solution saves valuable time and creates a seamless result, with no nails or screws.
Our QuickClip® products are perfect for circular use. Simply clip the wooden profiles away using the set of dismantling keys - there is no risk of damage.
If desired, panelling can be removed from the entire wall for re-use elsewhere.
Make sure you never use glue, so as to ensure the circular nature of our QuickClip® products. The clip grip is a handy tool that protects circularity.
In appearance, our Ignite tongue-and-groove boards in thermo pine are identical to the characteristic beauty of our charred woods. The major difference is that Ignite lacks the blackened, charred layer of wood finished with the traditional Shou Sugi Ban charring method. To achieve the texture of a burnt wood, thermally modified pine is embossed and brushed, then given a black finish.
This unique, aesthetically pleasing profile is a budget-friendly alternative for charred wood, but offers the same level of durability as thermo pine. Moreover, it is incredibly low-maintenance, requiring no more than a coat of black paint every five to seven years. With regular painting, the charred effect will remain intact for years. Ideal for interior and exterior projects.
Various sustainable wood varieties are suitable for charring. But to ensure outstanding quality, our price list includes only charred ash cladding. While other wood varieties may seem more affordable, we advise customers to use those only in interior porjects and other settings in which wood will not be exposed to the elements. Please feel free to ask for any advice you may need.
