Our thermo ash (HOTwood) is mainly sourced in Europe. As a durability class 1 wood, it is the best sustainable alternative for tropical hardwood varieties. Its outstanding qualities make it an excellent choice for many projects, both interior and exterior.
HOTwood – short for ‘heated outdoor timber’ – is a perfect expression of our sustainable production values.
Our HOTwood ash is sourced mainly from sustainably managed European forests and is thermally treated at a temperature of at least 215°C without the addition of chemical substances, using steam to prevent splitting and cracking. This heat treatment is what gives the ash wood its impressive durability.
Following this treatment, thermo ash is comparable to class 1 tropical hardwood, but with even better shape retention and a very attractive colour. HOTwood ash is also more durable and more resistant to moisture and wood rot.
Thermo ash develops a beautiful, evenly grey patina under the effects of wind and weather.
Our HOTwood ash is sourced almost exclusively in Europe, which means its ecological footprint is small. The wood grows more slowly in Europe than in the Americas, another factor that increases stability.
Upon request, PEFC certified thermo ash is available.
Our thermo ash cladding and decking boards are covered by a 20-year warranty.
