Thermo ash feels right at home in architecture that aims to be clear, warm and sustainable. This wood variety combines a refined appearance with strong technical performance, making it particularly well suited to façades, decking, walls and other applications where design and durability have to come together. The thermal modification gives the wood greater stability, a warm colour tone and a natural resistance to moisture and fungi. HOTwood stands for Heated Outdoor Timber. It is wood that is made more durable through a thermal process, without chemical additives. Our ash is heated with steam to at least 215 °C. This treatment improves the performance of the wood while helping to limit cracks and splits.
After this heat treatment, thermo ash achieves a durability comparable to tropical hardwood in durability class I. At the same time, the wood gains in dimensional stability and resistance to moisture, wood rot and fungi. Aesthetically, something changes too: the colour deepens and takes on a warm, rich tone that weathers to a beautifully even grey under the effects of wind and weather over time.

Our HOTwood ash comes almost exclusively from Europe. This limits the ecological footprint and reflects a conscious choice for wood from a nearer source. Because ash grows more slowly in Europe than in America, it also gains stability.
Our decking boards and cladding in thermo ash come with a 20-year guarantee. It is important that uncovered end grain is always treated with a wax oil, so that end-grain checking and small cracks are avoided. Thermo ash is available with a PEFC label.
