New fire rules for timber cladding
On August 20, 2024, rules covering reaction to fire classes for timber cladding changed. The European Commission decided that, from now on, the Certified Without Further Testing (CWFT) table would only apply to “untreated” wood products. What this means in practice is that cladding made from timber that has undergone a process to make it more durable no longer meets the conditions to be included on the CWFT table.
According to the new rules, treated timber profiles must undergo testing to determine their fire class. Furthermore, architects, entrepreneurs and property developers are required to present a valid reaction to fire classification certificate if they want to use these profiles for cladding.
You can avoid these tests by choosing cladding from our fire-retardant timber range. We already have the required reaction to fire rating reports for these profiles. The reports are available online and can be easily downloaded using your personal login. It is also possible to apply a fire-retardant treatment to other timber profiles so that they meet the desired reaction to fire standard.
