Black wood panelling made to order
Charred wood panelling creates a special ambiance in an interior space. The combination of the natural material and robust black finish works great in a rustic setting. But black wood is also an excellent choice for an industrial look. To make sure everything blends together perfectly, we apply the unique Shou Sugi Ban technique in our own workshop, applying the Japanese burnt wood finish of your choice to suit your project. By adjusting the strength of the flame and the intensity of brushing after charring, we can create a range of colours from lightly toasted to intense black. The grain and scaling patterns that emerge add visual interest to charred wood panelling, and results are different for every wood variety. For instance, charred Douglas fir creates a completely different look to charred oak wood. This means you can choose exactly the wood variety you prefer and get the results you want.

Durable panelling
Shou Sugi Ban not only creates beautiful black wood cladding, it also makes wood more longer-lasting. Charring the wood profiles creates a flame-retardant layer that makes wood panelling even more resistant to insects and mould. What’s more, Carpentier uses only sustainable wood varieties sourced from sustainably managed forests. With charred wood panelling, you can be absolutely sure that your interior panelling is truly sustainable.
A beautiful alternative for a Japanese burnt wood finish: HOTwood pine Ignite
In appearance, our Ignite tongue-and-groove boards in thermo pine are identical to the characteristic beauty of our charred woods. The major difference is that Ignite lacks the blackened, charred layer of wood finished with the traditional Shou Sugi Ban charring method. To achieve the texture of a burnt wood, thermally modified pine is embossed and brushed, then given a black finish.
This unique, aesthetically pleasing profile is a budget-friendly alternative for charred wood, but offers the same level of durability as thermo pine. Moreover, it is incredibly low-maintenance, requiring no more than a coat of black paint every five to seven years. With regular painting, the charred effect will remain intact for years. Ideal for interior and exterior projects.
Quick, seamless installation
Our cladding profiles for black wood panelling work perfectly with the invisible Grad® mounting system. We can deliver charred wood panelling that is completely ready to use, which means professionals can get straight to work. This smart solution not only saves time but also guarantees perfect results - with no visible nails or screws.
