Even weathering, low maintenance
Sun, wind and rain have a weathering effect on the wood used in exterior carpentry projects. Over the years, exterior woodwork will undergo a natural greying process. Depending on the orientation and the way the sunlight falls on a structure, irregular colour changes are a normal development in wooden cladding. Areas that are exposed to moisture will turn grey, while those that remain dry will darken. Our pre-weathered finish prevents colour differences and spotting from occurring in eaves and other sections of wood that are less exposed to rain and sun.
Applying our pre-weathered wood prevents patchy weathering effects. Your timber cladding or wooden outbuilding will develop a beautifully even weathered finish with no spotting, while also requiring very little maintenance.

Natural pre-weathering with wax oil
Upon request, Carpentier can pre-treat your wood profiles with a tinted wax oil, specially developed to imitate the natural greying of timber in the most realistic way possible. Two coats are always applied. The tiny particles of wax, the natural oils and the high-quality pigments penetrate into the pores of the wood and form a breathable, dirt and water repellent protection. The treated wood takes on a mat grey hue, without losing its rustic and natural look.
So applying this unique wax oil gives the timber a pre-weathered aspect, but also ensures long-lasting protection and prevents moss and algae. In addition, the high percentage of pigments provides great resistance to UV rays.
Alternatives
1. Pre-weathering with wax cream
An interesting alternative to wax oil for natural pre-weathering is treating timber with RMC WoodCream. This product is another 100% environmentally-responsible way to achieve a gorgeous weathered look. It is suitable for HOTwood ash, HOTwood pine, oak and other wood varieties. The wood cream comes in 27 colours, including several shades of grey. With only one coat required, this is a great budget-friendly option.
Good to know: all RMC products are VOC-free. This means that no harmful vapours are released during application.
2. Profiles stained grey
In our standard range, we offer wooden cladding and decking boards stained grey to the core. These boards are made from Accoya wood which has been coloured by impregnation, using an advanced and non-toxic staining process. A result, the wood has a uniform grey appearance from day one and stays attractive for years and years. What’s more, our Accoya Color Grey decking and our Accoya Color Grey cladding require little maintenance. A seasonal clean is enough for the decking or cladding to keep looking as good as new.
