Advantages of Urbain

A town house that grows with you: fit out the attic floor as your family changes. And because the shell is built up modularly, adapting it later remains easier than with conventional construction.

  • A full family home on a narrow urban plot
  • Not a single square metre is wasted
  • Prefab modules: short construction time, minimal disruption for the neighbours
  • A pitched roof fits in with the classic Flemish streetscape
  • Timber construction: a pleasant indoor climate, summer and winter
Carpentier is a company that keeps its word: punctual in timing, punctual in follow-up. That makes working together very pleasant. I have therefore strongly recommended them to other architects and professionals, because of the knowledge present within the company and because they work innovatively with very fine products.

Frequently asked questions about Urbain

General questions about modular timber construction, such as lead time and quality, are answered on the Forestique page. Here you can read what applies specifically to Urbain.

  • Does Urbain fit between two existing façades?

Yes, that's exactly what Urbain was made for. With a façade width of 6.5 m, the home slots into an urban infill plot, in terraced or semi-detached developments. The connection to the party walls and the necessary fire and sound insulation are factored into the design.

  • How does construction work in a busy city street?

More peacefully than you might think. We make the wall and floor elements in our workshop and install them with the crane, so the shell stands wind- and watertight within a few weeks. Fewer deliveries, less dust and less noise than on a conventional building site, and therefore less disruption for the neighbours.

  • Flat or pitched roof: what's the difference?

With a flat roof, Urbain has two floors and 116 m² of gross floor area. If you opt for a pitched roof, you gain a full attic floor and reach 148 m². A pitched roof also fits in with the classic Flemish streetscape, which is a requirement in some municipalities.

  • Can the façade width or the layout differ from the standard model?

Yes. The 6.5 m is the starting point, but the width can be larger, the number of floors can be extended and we tailor the room layout to your family. We start from the standard plan and adapt where needed.

  • What does Urbain cost?

The price depends on the roof type, the number of floors, the finishing level and the technical installations. Request a no-obligation price indication for your plot: you'll receive a clear overview of what is included.

Built by a family with a heart for wood

Since 1958, Carpentier has stood for craftsmanship in wood. What began in Tielt as Willy Carpentier Houtindustrie grew into a wood specialist that supplies more than 20,000 m³ of European hardwood each year and was one of the first Belgian companies to hold both the FSC and PEFC labels.

Today the third generation continues that story. Forestique is their own living concept: not an anonymous building system, but a home from people who have been working with wood for more than sixty years and are involved with it themselves every day.
