Oiled

Oil or stain not only gives wood greater depth and visual appeal, but also added protection. You can opt for a transparent finish that lets the wood grain speak for itself, or for an opaque colour layer that gives your project a distinctive character.

This keeps wood looking good for longer, both indoors and outdoors. Be sure to draw inspiration from our trend colours for a finish that perfectly complements the style of your project.

Benefits of treatment with oil or stain

  • Longer lifespan
  • Protection against the effects of wind and weather
  • Less prone to soiling
  • Better colour retention
  • Contemporary, on-trend look and feel
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor use

Natural look, retaining the wood grain

Want to preserve the natural appearance of wood as much as possible? Then a colourless oil or stain is an excellent choice. It protects the surface against soiling, while the wood grain remains visible and the whole retains a soft, timeless appearance.

Outdoors, wood weathers naturally

Colourless-treated wood will weather to grey over time when used outdoors. If you want to retain the original colour for longer, it is better to use a lightly pigmented oil.

The right solution depends on the wood variety

For thermo ash, a two-coat treatment with RMC Sunprimer HWP Look Ipé and RMC Hybrid Wood Protector Look Ipé helps to preserve the warm brown tone. If you want something a little deeper, Look Chocolat is a fine alternative. For thermo Clear Pine, we often recommend RMC WoodCream Custommade, for a warm brown colour with an appearance reminiscent of Afrormosia.

Indoors, a colourless oil is usually sufficient

This protects the wood against grease, fingerprints and daily use, without losing the natural look.

On-trend black

Black remains a strong choice. It looks sleek and timeless, and gives wood a presence all of its own. In outdoor applications, a black finish creates a beautiful contrast with greenery, flowers and planting. In interiors, black works as a calm, powerful backdrop against which other materials and colours stand out more strongly.

We apply black finishes to thermo ash, thermo softwood, Accoya and oak, among others. For a good and durable result, we work with a two-coat treatment. The intensity of the black depends on the products chosen. A combination with Charcoal, for instance, looks softer than a pure Black build-up.

Find black too harsh?

Do you find black too harsh for your project? Then Charcoal or Nori are a fine alternative. These off-black tones, developed together with trend watcher Hilde Francq, look almost black in certain light, but feel softer and more subtle. Deep brown tones such as Bizon, Wenge and Espresso are also strong choices if you want to combine warmth with a distinctive appearance.

Weathered, but controlled

Letting wood age untreated does not always produce an even result. Sun, rain and shade often cause variations. With a pre-weathered finish, you can steer that process far more effectively.

Rubio WoodCream Transparent #0 allows the wood to weather to grey gradually and evenly. Rubio WoodCream Aged #2 gives an immediate light-grey touch. There are also taupe and sand tones that give the wood a softer, more contemporary appearance.

Within our Accoya range, there are profiles that are impregnated grey right through to the core. These need no additional finish and retain their refined grey appearance for years. Ideal for anyone who wants a strong grey tone straight away, without the need for regular re-oiling.

Colourful trends

Alongside natural, black and grey, much more is possible. Wood oils and stains are available in a broad range of colours, from understated and warm to bold and daring. This lets you give every project its own tone, without compromising on protection.

Unsure which to choose between several tones, or want to know what suits your wood variety best? Then we will be happy to think it through with you.

Continually innovating

We continually renew our range of colour finishes. In this way, we translate the most relevant indoor and outdoor trends into colours that genuinely work on wood. Think of moss green, blue-green, deep brown tones and other timeless nuances that give materials and architecture more depth.

Maintaining oiled wood

Oiled wood used outdoors can become more matt over time. With the right care products, you can refresh the surface and restore the depth of the colour. And if you want to switch to a different tone later on, we will be glad to think it through with you.
