Fire safety plays an important role when choosing timber cladding. That is why we offer a carefully composed range of cladding profiles that, with or without fire-retardant treatment, meet reaction-to-fire class D and/or B. Thermo bamboo even achieves reaction-to-fire class B naturally, without fire-retardant treatment. The corresponding reaction-to-fire classification reports can easily be found under downloads.
Since 20 August 2024, new rules apply to the reaction-to-fire class of timber cladding. The European Commission has determined that the CWFT table now only applies to untreated wood products. As a result, cladding in durable or modified wood no longer automatically falls within that scheme.
For treated timber profiles, a test is required to establish the correct reaction-to-fire class. Anyone who wishes to use these profiles as cladding must therefore be able to present a valid reaction-to-fire classification report.
We offer a range of fire-retardant timber cladding for which the necessary reaction-to-fire classification reports are already available. This way you work with profiles that comply with the applicable standards and immediately have the right documentation at hand. The reports can be consulted online and are easy to download with your personal login.
For a correct and safe installation of fire-retardant cladding, we also offer battens that are impregnated to be fire-resistant, tailored for use in combination with fire-retardant open-joint cladding.
Which reaction-to-fire class you need for timber cladding depends, among other things, on the height of the building and the application. In our whitepaper you can read which rules apply and what to look out for when choosing the right system.
With our decision tree you can quickly see which façade solution suits the reaction-to-fire class of your project. You immediately get a clear overview of the wood varieties, finishes and profiles that meet the applicable requirements.
Fire safety and the appearance of wood are not mutually exclusive. With the right profiles, certificates and treatment, you as an architect or contractor can fully opt for wood, even in projects with strict fire safety requirements.
