Give your façade the warm appearance of wood without compromising on fire safety. At Carpentier you'll find timber façade profiles in reaction-to-fire class B, with solutions tailored to the requirements of your project. Our thermo bamboo façade profiles achieve this classification without any additional fire-retardant treatment, while for other wood varieties we provide targeted solutions to meet the same standard.
For fire-safety reasons, façades often have to comply with reaction-to-fire class B. Architects, property developers and contractors are therefore required to submit the necessary reaction-to-fire classification reports. At Carpentier you'll find fire-retardant timber cladding with the required certification, so you meet the strictest safety standards. The reports are available online and easy to download using your personal login.
Whether you need to apply cladding with a D or B classification depends largely on the height of the building.
Whether you need to apply cladding with reaction-to-fire class D or B depends largely on the height of the building. We explain it clearly in our whitepaper.
Our closed cladding in thermo bamboo is a sustainable choice that fully complies with reaction-to-fire class B without any additional treatment. This makes thermo bamboo the perfect solution for projects where fire safety and aesthetics are both paramount.
A wonderful example is the Switi project in Amsterdam, where our HOTwood bamboo half-lap shiplap QC was used as timber cladding. This closed façade profile achieves reaction-to-fire class B-s1,d0 without any fire-retardant treatment. This bio-based residential construction project won the National Timber Construction Award 2024 in the Netherlands in the serial timber construction category.
For sustainable wood varieties such as thermally modified ash and softwood, a fire-retardant treatment is needed to achieve reaction-to-fire class B. At Carpentier we opt for a fire-retardant treatment by means of vacuum pressure, a natural and efficient method to optimise the reaction-to-fire class. Thanks to this process, our timber cladding is guaranteed to comply with reaction-to-fire class B.
Reaction-to-fire class B is possible for closed timber cladding and for vertical timber cladding with open joints, provided the cladding system is fixed in the traditional way. The façade profiles are then visibly screwed or nailed to the supporting structure.
This solution is suitable for projects where fire performance is paramount and visible fixing is not an issue. For open-joint cladding, specific conditions apply regarding the wood variety, fire-retardant treatment, installation method and the maximum spacing between the profiles.
For projects where, alongside fire performance, a sleek façade without visible screws or nails is also desired, Carpentier developed an innovative solution together with Grad®: Pyroclip.
With this certified clip grip, reaction-to-fire class B is now also possible for open-joint QuickClip® cladding with invisible fixing and open joints of up to 30 to 35 mm. This way you combine the technical assurance of a fire-retardant cladding system with the aesthetic benefits of blind fixing.
This development is an absolute first in timber cladding. It opens up new possibilities for fire-retardant open-joint façades with a pronounced rhythmic play of lines, quick installation and a sleek, uniform result.
Fire safety doesn't have to be a compromise on appearance. With the right profiles and reports, you can opt wholeheartedly for wood — even in projects with the strictest fire-safety requirements.
