Charred wood cladding

At Carpentier, you'll find black timber cladding tailored to your project. In our own workshop, we use the Shou Sugi Ban technique to create the desired look that gives your façade a unique character. What's more, our black charred timber cladding combines perfectly with the invisible Grad® mounting system, ensuring easy installation and a seamless finish.

Charred wood cladding, unique and made to measure

Using the Shou Sugi Ban technique, we create a black charred layer in our own workshop that gives every project a unique, weathered appearance.

  1. From deep black to lightly toasted
Our cladding is available in various shades, depending on the wood variety, the strength of the flame and the intensity of the subsequent brushing.
  2. Charred ash and Accoya for outdoor use
For quality reasons, we only include charred ash and charred Accoya in our outdoor price list. We recommend other wood varieties for interior use only.
  3. Combinable with the Grad® mounting system
Our charred profiles combine perfectly with the invisible Grad® system for a seamless result without nails or screws.
  4. Ignite as a budget-friendly alternative
Want the charred look without the charred layer? Then our Ignite profile is a stylish, low-maintenance alternative, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

The benefits of charred wood cladding

Charred wood combines a unique aesthetic appearance with enhanced technical properties. The Shou Sugi Ban technique gives the wood more depth, character and durability.

  • Deep black finish with a weathered appearance
  • Wood grain stands out even more strongly
  • Better resistant to UV, fungi and insects
  • Harder, more robust charred layer
  • Sustainable wood from responsibly managed forests
  • Combinable with the Grad® mounting system
  • Various degrees of charring possible
  • Seamless result thanks to invisible fixing
  • Finished to measure for your project
  • Unique look — no two façades are identical

A charred layer full of character

The charred top layer created by the Shou Sugi Ban technique is not a surface treatment — it is the result of a controlled charring process that strengthens the wood from within. This charred layer gives the wood greater resistance to UV radiation, fungi and insects, while also creating the unique deep-black appearance.

Each board reacts slightly differently to the flame, so the texture and intensity can vary slightly from piece to piece. This makes every charred wood façade project unique — a finish that only gains more character over time.

No two charred wood boards are identical. Each wood variety reacts differently to the fire and reveals its own structure. That makes every project unique.

HOTwood Pine Ignite: the charred look without the charred layer

Our Ignite tongue-and-groove board in thermo pine perfectly mimics the characteristic pattern of charred wood. The key difference is that Ignite does not have the black charred layer that wood acquires after the Shou Sugi Ban technique. To achieve the texture of charred wood, the thermally modified softwood is coloured black, brushed and given a relief finish.

This profile is an attractively priced alternative to charred wood, with all the sustainable properties of thermo pine. Ignite is also very low-maintenance: after 5 to 7 years, a coat of black water-based paint is all that's needed. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Installing QuickClip® cladding with ease

Want to work quickly, neatly and efficiently? Then the smart Grad® system offers great added value when installing timber cladding. This concealed fixing system is perfectly matched to our QuickClip® profiles and makes installation considerably easier.

The clips are positioned in advance at the correct spacing on the aluminium joists. You then simply click the timber boards into place. This way you save time on site, work with great precision and also cut installation costs.

QuickClip® also makes the cladding removable. Using dismantling keys, you simply unclip the timber battens without damaging the profile. So you opt for a solution that combines ease of use, a neat finish and circularity.

Everything for a smooth installation, ready to order straight away
