Timber cladding, fire class B and a subtle colour finish? This project for CURAM, a mental health care institution in Ypres, shows that building to fire-safe standards can still allow for architectural freedom and a rich material experience.
Timber cladding, reaction-to-fire class B and a subtle colour finish? This project for CURAM, a mental health care facility in Ypres, shows that fire-safe construction can also allow architectural freedom and a rich material experience.
For this new-build project, BEEL Architecten opted for a considered combination of wood and concrete. The timber cladding in thermo softwood was given a subtle green oiled finish, allowing the building to blend beautifully with its green surroundings. At the same time, the wood brings warmth to the architecture and reinforces the calm, caring character of the building.
We are proud of this project, which nicely illustrates how fire safety and architectural freedom can go perfectly hand in hand. The subtle colour finish brings warmth and expression to the façade and proves that there is still room for character even within strict fire safety requirements. Thanks to our fire-retardant timber cladding and certified colour finishes, architects working on utility buildings or other projects where reaction-to-fire class B is required retain the freedom to choose colour, a rich material experience and a façade tailored to its surroundings.
We are happy to help you choose the right, certified timber solution.
