Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze for cladding and decking

After an intensive four-year process, Carpentier achieved the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze v4.0 certification for HOTwood Essen, HOTwood Pine and HOTwood Clear Pine with the QuickClip® system. This means you know exactly what goes into your timber façade or decking, how it is made, and how it finds a new purpose after use.

What is Cradle to Cradle Certified®?

  • Cradle to Cradle Certified® is an internationally recognised certification system developed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII). It looks beyond the end product: the materials, the production processes and the entire supply chain are all examined.
  • The framework provides a scientifically grounded approach to designing products that fit perfectly within a circular economy, in which waste as a concept disappears.
This certification is a milestone for us, but also a starting point. Over the past four years, we have invested heavily in knowledge, processes and partnerships to make our products circular. We want to take every worry off our customers' hands, architects, contractors and clients alike: not only with innovative timber solutions, but also with the assurance that they are choosing a responsible, future-focused product.

Three certificates, one product

Full Scope Bronze (v4.0)

The product was assessed across all five categories of Cradle to Cradle Certified®.

Circularity Bronze (v4.1)

A separate certificate for circularity, material reuse and circular strategies.

Officially registered

The product is listed in the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Products Registry and the certificates are valid until May 2029.

Four years of work across five categories

Together with Sustenuto and Material Health Assessor ARCHE Consulting, Carpentier examined its products, production processes and entire supply chain. The wood colouring carried out by our partner Timfin was also reviewed. This led to concrete improvements in five areas.

The certificates apply to HOTwood Essen, HOTwood Pine and HOTwood Clear Pine with the QuickClip® system and are valid until May 2029.

What Carpentier did in practice

  • Material health: all chemicals inventoried and assessed
  • Product circularity: designed for reuse, dismantling and closed loops
  • Air quality and climate protection: energy consumption and CO₂ emissions mapped out
  • Water and soil management: water consumption and impact on ecosystems analysed
  • Social fairness: human rights risks across the chain mapped out
  • The entire chain: the wood colouring at our partner Timfin was examined too

What the certification gives you

For architects, contractors and clients, Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze offers concrete benefits when choosing building materials:

  • Demonstrable sustainability: scientifically grounded and independently certified
  • Material passport: full traceability of materials and chemicals
  • Circular building: products designed for reuse at the end of their life
  • Support for BREEAM and LEED certification of buildings
  • Local production in Tielt: limited transport impact and short supply lines

Circular thanks to QuickClip®

With QuickClip®, you clip the boards invisibly onto an aluminium substructure, and later unclip them just as easily. No glue, no screws in the wood. If one board is damaged, you simply replace that single board. An entire façade or an entire deck can be dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere.
