Carpentier uses the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban charring technique to give the wood a unique, weathered appearance and to protect it against the effects of wind and weather.
The charred finish comes in many variations: from lightly toasted to intensely charred. We char the timber boards entirely to the architect's or client's wishes in our own workshop. Our experienced team then fixes the charred layer so that it does not rub off. Because everything is done in-house, we can guarantee a short delivery time.
Outdoors, our charred wood is perfect for sustainable cladding and for cladding our wooden gates and fences as a ready-to-assemble kit. Charred wood is also exceptionally well suited to interior applications such as wall panelling.
