Anyone who would like to install a care home in their garden, for example to help look after an elderly parent in need of care at home, will soon be able to do so far more easily. A simple notification will suffice.
Last Friday, the Flemish Government decided to significantly relax the rules for a living unit or care home in your garden. In the future, you will, for example, no longer need an environmental permit to install a granny annexe in your garden, and the mandatory involvement of an architect will also no longer be required. This new simplified arrangement is expected to come into effect before the summer of 2021. There are, however, a number of conditions attached to the new regulations. The unit must be a temporary solution to help your parent or family member in need of care. In addition, the (mobile) living unit may be no larger than 50 m² and may not be placed in your front garden.
In this way, the aim is to lower the threshold for those who wish to care for their father, mother, child or friend in need of care in their own home environment, while still keeping the necessary privacy. After all, the need of elderly people requiring care to live as close as possible to family members continues to grow. It is, however, not always possible or desirable to take a parent in need of care or a sick family member into your home. A mobile living unit can then offer a solution. You can easily place it next to your house or in your back garden. That way you keep your own privacy, and the person needing care can continue to live in the care unit on a reasonably independent basis.
Carpentier creates its mobile care units entirely made to measure and ensures that they blend in beautifully with their surroundings. Unlike the dull containers that often look cold and bleak, the timber cladding gives your care home a warm appearance. Thanks to the wooden structure, the indoor climate is also very pleasant and comfortable. Furthermore, when creating the unit we also take all practical needs into account and provide an aesthetic finish in the style you want. Your loved one in need of care will immediately feel at home in a Carpentier mobile unit made to measure.
At present, installing such a granny annexe still requires a long and complicated procedure, which often makes it impossible to help people with acute care needs, who have sometimes already passed away by the time the permit finally arrives. The decision of the Flemish Government will change this next year, when a simple notification to your municipality will suffice. This makes it far easier, so you no longer need to hesitate about installing a care unit in your garden.
An additional advantage of a Carpentier mobile living unit is that it can be moved to another location in its entirety. So if you move house, you can simply install the living unit in the garden of your new home. Once the need for care no longer applies, the living unit can also easily be given another function and serve as a hobby or leisure space, garden office or pool house.
