Timber construction fully made to measure

Our wooden outbuildings and wooden homes are developed entirely to measure, tailored to the design and the desired appearance. From sleek and modern to warm and timeless: a wide range of styles is perfectly possible.

The outbuildings are available in oak, thermo ash, thermo softwood or barnwood and are crafted with attention to detail and quality.

Timber construction as the foundation for future-oriented architecture

Wood has been part of our family business's DNA for decades. Today, we translate that expertise into contemporary timber construction that combines architectural freedom with technical reliability, sustainable performance and a high-quality appearance.

Whether it concerns a pool house, garden office, wooden outbuilding or a complete outdoor space: with Carpentier you choose a partner who thinks along with you in design, detailing and execution.

Frequently asked questions about timber construction

  • What design freedom does timber construction offer?

Timber construction hardly limits your design: large spans, cantilevers, generous glazing and open floor plans are perfectly possible. Thanks to the strength and low weight of wood, combined with LVL and glulam beams, we realise both sleek modern volumes and warm, rural designs.

  • Which spans are possible in timber-frame construction?

With glulam beams, LVL and rib panels we easily span 8 metres and more without intermediate support. For larger open spaces we combine timber frame with solid elements or steel where needed. Our engineers work out the most efficient solution together with you.

  • What about large glass sections and open façades?

Large windows and open corners can be solved well in timber construction, as long as the bracing is cleverly integrated in the design. In the design phase we look at where shear walls are needed and how we integrate lintels and columns invisibly into the wall build-up. That way your façade concept remains fully intact.

  • Which wall build-up and insulation values can I expect?

A standard timber-frame wall easily achieves U-values of 0.15 W/m²K or better with a limited thickness. The insulation fills the entire wall thickness, leaving you more net floor area than with a solid wall. We use a vapour-open build-up and tune it to the energy targets of your project, up to passive level.

  • How does a timber structure meet fire regulations?

With the right boarding and insulation, timber-frame walls and floors achieve fire resistances of REI 30 to REI 60 and more. Wood chars predictably and retains its load-bearing capacity for a long time. We supply the necessary certificates and detail the connections so that the fire compartmentation is correct.

  • How do we solve acoustics in timber construction?

With double-leaf walls, floating screeds and the right mass, we meet the acoustic requirements for houses and apartments. Especially for multi-family housing we look at the floor build-up and the connections in detail. Where needed we combine with solid CLT elements.

  • Which façade finishes are possible on a timber structure?

Anything you can apply to a traditional structure: wooden cladding, render, brick slips, masonry or panel materials. Carpentier itself specialises in wooden cladding and sun protection in the same timber species, so that façade, overhang and exterior joinery form one whole.

  • Which technical documentation and files do you provide?

We provide production drawings, wall build-ups, detail drawings and the necessary technical data sheets and certificates. We work from your plans or BIM model and return our elements in a usable format. That way our engineering fits seamlessly into your file.

  • Who does the structural study and the detailing?

Our engineers calculate the timber structure and work out the detailing of all connections. We coordinate this with the project's structural engineer for the foundations and any concrete or steel parts. You keep the design, we make sure it is technically sound.

  • From when should I involve Carpentier in the design?

Ideally from the preliminary design. Then we can immediately align the division into elements, the spans and the wall build-up with your concept, without you having to redesign later. Early consultation saves your client time and budget.

  • What does timber construction cost compared to traditional construction?

The shell cost is at the same level; the gain lies in the shorter construction time, fewer failure costs and a slimmer wall. Because we calculate per element and per level of finish, you quickly get a transparent estimate that you can include in your budget advice.

  • How much shorter is the construction time with prefab timber construction?

The wind- and watertight structure is up within days, while production runs in parallel with the foundation works. Because it is a dry construction method, finishing can start immediately. Count on a total construction time that is months shorter than with traditional construction.

  • Which sustainability arguments can I use towards my client?

Wood is renewable, stores CO₂ and requires little energy to process. Our wood is PEFC or FSC® certified, the elements can be dismantled and reused, and the bio-based insulation ensures a healthy indoor climate. We supply the certificates for your sustainability file.

  • Does timber construction affect the permit application?

No, in Flanders a timber house is assessed in the same way as traditional construction. You submit the application as for any other construction. For roof extensions or home extensions, the low weight of wood is often an asset for feasibility.

  • How does working with Carpentier go?

After an initial consultation about your design, our technical office and engineers develop the structure, after which we produce and install. You have a single point of contact from preliminary design to completion. Contact us for a no-obligation meeting or a visit to our workshop.

Starting a project?

Is your client opting for a complete concept? Then we can also include a timber deck, wooden gate and/or fence in the same wood variety and style as part of the kit.
