Strictly speaking, thermo bamboo is not wood. But it does have the outstanding qualities of hardwood, and it is a particularly sustainable alternative for the tropical wood varieties that are becoming more and more scarce.
A limitless resource
Gaining up to a metre per day, bamboo is the world’s fastest growing plant. Harvesting takes place after five years – and since it does not harm the rootstock, a new stem emerges in place of the previous one.
From hollow stem to board
Harvested bamboo is sawn into strips and peeled. The strips are then compressed and heat-treated without using chemicals. After the patented thermal treatment, which takes place at 200 °C, bamboo is not only extremely hard and very stable but also completely resistant to mould. Bamboo is a limitless natural resource with countless applications as a building material. Make sure to have a look at our beautiful HOTwood bamboo decking boards.
